New Support Coordination and Advocacy Hub team members

We are excited to announce the establishment of a dedicated hub for our Support Coordination and NDIS advocacy services.

Based at 75 Mitchell Street, Bendigo, our team of Support Coordinators is expanding rapidly to allow us to help you to:

  • maximise your NDIS plan
  • connect you to the supports you need
  • build your capacity for independence and
  • assist you to reach your goals.

The hub will also incorporate our NDIS Advocacy Services delivered by Marie Whitrow.

Joining the Support Coordination team in January are Chris Lakey , Luke Bassett and Leia Carter.

Luke Bassett

As someone with a family member living with a disability, I have seen both the positive outcomes that can be achieved when the best supports are in place and the challenges that are faced when they are not. It is because of this that I was first drawn to the disability sector and became a Community Facilitator and OSHC Educator for Interchange LMR.

Whilst undertaking these roles I committed myself to attaining a Diploma of Community Services which lead me to working with disadvantaged families in the Shepparton office of Bendigo Family and Financial Services.

However, my true passion of empowering people living with disabilities drew me back to Interchange and into the role of NDIS Support Coordinator which I now find myself. Outside of work I enjoy cooking, op shopping, farmers markets and a cosey night on the couch watching Netflix with my beautiful partner.

Chris Lakey

HI, Im Chris Lakey and I joined Interchange as a Support Coordinator on Jan 8th 2021.

I spent the last 20 years working with the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank in a range of roles but mostly in the project management space working closely with teams both in Australia and overseas.  My passion however has always been to work with the community working with those less fortunate than myself.  I have volunteered to many support groups throughout Bendigo and the surrounding area with the majority of my time spent coaching and mentoring a local disadvantaged football team from 2007 – 2015.

My family and I are based in Marong where we our kids go to school.  Both my wife and I are heavily involved in the community and local sporting groups and enjoy being able to give back wherever we can.  Im really excited to be apart of Interchange and looking forward to working with such wonderful people right across the group!

Leia Carter

Hi I am Leia I joined Interchange on 2nd November 2020 as an NDIS Support Coordinator.

My background is in human services having worked as a Services Officer at Centrelink for 14 years and also prior to that as an Employment and Training Consultant in the Disability Employment Services program. I am very much enjoying getting to know my caseload of participants in this role and working with them and their families to co-ordinate the services and supports funded in their NDIS plans. The team here at ILMR are very supportive and helpful and it is great to be part of a team that works so well together. I love helping others, so I am finding this role personally rewarding even when the pressure is on to get everything done yesterday!

When I am not at work I am Mum to two beautiful boys 6 and 3yrs, and a 3 month old Kelpie called Major. We live on 1.5 acres and very much enjoy the semi rural lifestyle where the boys can ride motorbikes and paddle their kayaks in the lake behind our home. My husband and I also enjoy getting away caravanning and camping with the kids when we can, spending time at home landscaping and establishing our garden and walking Major around the lake at night after dinner, which Major also loves!
